Is 1500 calories too much in a day for me to eat while trying to lose weight?

Lauren asked:

i am 19 years old
Is 1500 calories too many?
Oh no I eat healthy. I’m doing Weight Watchers, but on average I eat between 1200-1300 a day and my mom is worried that that is too little. and i exercise daily.

No. My doctor said that is the minimum a female should go for trying to lose weight. So that’s perfect!

    Well me personaly, am 13, 5″4 and I weigh 109 – 110.
    I want to weigh 95.
So Im cutting down to 700 calories a day.

So I personly think 1500 IS to much, but then again..im not completely sure.

    Slim down – remove fat

A dietician once told me a good estimate is 13 times the pounds you want to weigh. So if you want to weigh 150, 13×150=1950. So if you had 1950 calories a day you should lose weight to 150 approximately. Everyone is different. But 1500 sounds reasonable.

    Losing weight without starving yourself

No but it depends how active you are!

If you sit on your butt all day watching TV and the 1500 cals are a lot of fats, then yes, you could stay overweight.

However if you eat healthy foods and you work out, lift weights and do cardio, then 1500 cals might actually be too few to keep healthy. You can easily lose weight on 2000+ cals or more if you are active enough.

    Exercise and Weight Loss

No, sounds fine to me, but it does depend on your individual body type and exercise levels. The site below will calculate it for you for free. See the MER it calculates for you. That is the energy your body needs just to keep going. To lose weight safely – drop your calories by approximately 300 per day below your MER.

No. Less than 1500 calories would not be healthy. If you want to lose weight faster, then you should exercise at least every other day for at least 1 hour. Do exercise bike, elliptical machine, stair master, treadmill, bike outside, jog outside. Also, do strength training.
