I am not trying to sound rude, but the diet is called exercise and healthy food. The only reasons kids should be overweight if they are eating well and exercising enough is if they have a medical problem. So, if they are already exercising and eating the right foods I would talk with your pediatrician to find out what could be impeding the weight loss.

eat lots of fruits and veggies…fresh ones. Try to cut out junk food and keep active. Don’t be too strict with yourselves and leave room for mistakes! Try to find activities that are fun…like swimming and that way you are getting exercise without feeling like it’s hard work! Good luck to both of you!!

Drink lots of water instead of sodas or sugary drinks, that helps a lot. And always exercise. Diet alone won’t do the trick most of the time, you have to try and keep your body in good shape. First off, you need to institute something that’s going to stick. Completely removing starches, carbs and sugars really isn’t feasible.
Secondly, and I’ve learned this personally, instead of three big meals a day, go for seven small meals a day. Go for protein in the morning (nothing heavy), a snack three hours later, a light lunch, a mid-afternoon snack, dinner (meats and veggies), then an after-dinner snack (sugar free treats).
The idea is to keep the metabolism engine running. Eating three bigs a day, or even twice a day like I used to, is not ideal for your metabolism, especially if it seems like yours may be slow.
And as always, exercise. Exercise doesn’t have to be 2 hours a day, but you need to get your heart pumping good for at least 15-30 minutes a day.
If you’re going to have starches or carbs, have them earlier in the day so you can have all day to burn them off. Stay away from starches and carbs for dinner.
And the less sugar intake, the better. Lots of tasty treats out there with low sugar (fruit topped with Cool Whip, sugar free popsicles, etc.).

Don’t diet. There is a difference between going on a diet and being a healthy eater. Never mind going on a diet. You will be much better off this way. Especially for kids, because that means you’re building you foundation for healthy eating early on. that puts you in a much better position than someone who’s been eating unhealthy for 40 years. I’m just saying your body will adapt to the healthy foods. Don’t give up and good luck.
