How long will I lose weight on 1500 calories a day?

kosm asked:

Lets say I maintain my weight eating 2100 calories a day. So, I dropped that down to 1500 calories a day. I seem to be losing about 1 pound a week, or every week and a half. How long will I continuely lose weight at 1500 calories a day? Won’t I eventually reach a point where I maintain at 1500 calories a day? and the weight loss at that point will stop? How long can I lose weight at 1500 calories a day consistently?

    Lose weight, Lose Fat

Look online for calorie expenditure calculators. As your weight goes down you need less for maintainance, however if your activity levels continue to increase, that calorie level should maintain to help you lose weight for a LONG time. Unless of course, you are already quite thin. In that case your body will start to make you reduce your activity level via sickness or fatigue.

    Need to lose weight?

A pound every week or so is great. Don’t try to loose weight any faster than that. I would think that after awhile your body will start to slow your metabolism somewhat. You might want to eat a maintenance diet a couple days a week to keep this from happening. Eat more in the mornings and less in the evenings. This makes it less likely that you will store fat. Spread out your eating over the day. If you can do this, you should loose weight for a long time on 1500 calories.
