What should I expect from my first appointment at the Mayo Clinic?
Barry G asked:
I am going to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville for stomach problem very soon. I was wondering if anyone has been there for similar problems and what should I expect. Will they make me stay there a few days? Will I have to go back and forth for future appointments a lot? Any comments would be helpful.

I went to the mayo clinic in Minnesota for digestive problems. I was not a name when I got there I became a number. I guess if you live where there are no other good hospitals around it was a good place to go. They did do a good job explaining everything to me. Things are probably different in Florida, but you will probably need a few days just because the prep for certain test can take a day. Today to keep control of my digestion I do meditation and yoga.

I’ve been to the Jacksonville Mayo site a number of times (they were my primary-care provider for a few years). Generally, Mayo tries to schedule all their appointments for out-of-town patients the same day when possible.
Should you want to minimize running around, there is a Marriott Courtyard Hotel right on campus along with the Inn at Mayo – both are an easy walk to the complex (the Mayo Inn directly adjoins the Mayo buildings.)
If you rent a car or drove in, there are a number of extended-stay type hotels within a few miles of the campus (a cluster of them are just up JTB/FL202 off the Gate Parkway exit; a few others are along or just off Beach Blvd. near St. John’s Bluff)
